History
The Deliverance in Uganda has two medical facilities in Eastern Uganda, namely J.O.Y Health Centre and Hospice in Mbale and Buwasunguyi Health Centre 2. The latter was originally also in Mbale District but after two divisions of a large Mbale District it is now in Namisindwa District. Both are administered from Mbale. Both are registered annually with the Ministry of Health and are under the umbrella organization the Uganda Protestant Medical Bureau. Medicines and medical equipment is primarily purchased from Joint Medical Store, a local supplier is used when JMS is out of stock.
Buwasunguyi Health Centre 2 was opened in rented premises in 1999. After land was bought it moved to a purpose-built clinic in Sisongofa village in 2005. A spring on the site was protected and a latrine block added in the next two years. Later a room for the in-charge was built, although this is now the laboratory. There is now a duplex with accommodation for two female nurses and two midwives.
J.O.Y Health Centre and Hospice is also a private -not-for-profit health care facility in Mbale City. As well as the services typical of a Health Centre 3 it specializes in holistic Palliative Care. A laboratory was added in 2004, a medical store and administrative office in 2008, a maternity department in 2016 and a self-contained isolation room in 2020 during the height of the Covid pandemic.
